Milan Digital Fashion Week: the first entirely digital fashion week
«Milan is Fashion and Fashion is Milan. The time has come to react, to make the city live, reinvent itself and build a new normality.” Thus, the first entirely digital Milan Fashion Week was inaugurated by Mayor Beppe Sala. A real novelty dictated by a very particular moment.
«This event was born as a response to social distancing and the difficulty of traveling imposed by the global health situation – explained Carlo Capasa, President of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion – but it also wants to be a functional and creative tool designed to live its own life or to support the appointment with physical fashion shows, when it will be possible to return to the fullness of in-person events, which remain fundamental in promoting the enormous productive and creative value of Made in Italy”.
To date, the calendar of fashion shows, events and cultural initiatives presents the men’s collections and the Spring-Summer 2021 men’s and women’s pre-collections via a digital platform designed to accommodate the contents of the brands present on the calendar.
Forty-two brands showed, including twenty-one new Italian and international names. Two fashion houses, however, chose to show in person, these are Etro and Dolce and Gabbana who organized their live fashion show, the latter in particular left its mark by choosing the Humanitas Hospital as its symbolic location from Milan.
